Sun Lakes is city and community of 11,000 homesites. There are 3 Home Owners Associations. The original Sun Lakes Country Club, Phase 1; Cottonwood and the gated section Palo Verde, Phase 2; and Oakwood and Ironwood, Phase 3. Each has a Home Owners Association. Sun Lakes is unincorporated from the city of Chandler.
E. J. Robson started building Sun Lakes in the 1970's and is just now finishing building in Oakwood, the newest phase.
The Lakes of Sun Lakes bring a sense of serenity and peacefulness to the desert area. There are plenty of green lawns from the many golf courses and all together there are 12 swimming pools, and 8 spas to soak away the worry. A member of any Sun Lakes association can attend events in any other association. Tennis clubs and golf courses have some restrictions.
The golf courses of Cottonwood and Palo Verde and the Sun Lakes Country Club are owned by the Home Owners Association. The remaining golf courses are semi-public with special pricing for residents.
Each association has fitness centers available at no fee, and Oakwood has a special monitored fitness center available for a low price to residents. If you want a healthy lifestyle, here it is!
But that is not all! There are social clubs, cultural clubs, crafts, card rooms and billards, bocci ball courts and yes a few shuffle board courts. There are organized tours, travel and sports events year around. Trips to the Diamonbacks games, the new stadium in Glendale for the Cardinals football team and don't forget spring training outings.
